Waiʻala is a Native Hawaiian homesteader living in Kaʻū with her husband JJ and their son, Kupuohi. Raised in her ancestral homeland of Pohoʻiki, she walks with light footsteps and remains deeply rooted in the ‘āina. She is pictured in this painting on the black sands of Punaluʻu Beach.
